2019 Birthday Wishlist

by Jamie Sanford on November 21, 2019

I can’t believe I skipped a birthday wishlist last year! I won’t be making that mistake again. Let’s get into it.

Squirrel taxidermy. DONE.

Giraffe doormat! This is adorable.

Hummingbird skull necklace. Macabre and also somehow classy.

Upside down Christmas tree! This is a little one to hang from the ceiling.

The Chris pocket bag from Zana Bayne. For when I want to have a bag but don’t want to carry a bag.

I’m sure I could think of more things, but I have covered all of the things that popped into my head first. Fun things that I would love to have and maybe wouldn’t immediately buy for myself, or I would have already.

Link Tank #54: Home and Interior Shopping Edition

by Jamie Sanford on September 9, 2019

I recently bought a house with my husband, and have done more shopping than I expected to, and spent way more money than I expected as well. I’m told that all of this is normal.

So, what did I buy? Let’s get into it!

Zinus Suzanne Metal and Wood King Bed Frame. I will never regret upgrading to a king bed, I love it!

Command Picture-Hanging Strips. I’ve only used one set of these so far, but they were great. I’ll circle back when I decide to remove them from the wall.

BN-LINK Wireless Remote Control Outlet Kit. We got these to sort out selected outlets that don’t have a switch affiliated with them. A cute and simple solution.

Thermacell Mosquito Repelling Lantern. This was recommended by a colleague and we think it works? Plus, it’s cute.

Generic magic eraser sponges, set of 50! I think now that I might not have needed 50, but I have a basement for storage and now I won’t have to buy any more for at least a few years.

Krud Kutter, as recommended by Apartment Therapy. It doesn’t have a terrible smell and does good work in the kitchen!

Gorilla Grip Gripper Pad, for under the rug in my dressing room. So far, this is working excellently.

Marble-look contact paper. I had to recover the shelves in my linen closet, and this did the trick! It’s a bit more expensive than some of the other options online, but the quality is really great.

I have more items that I’ve purchased, naturally, but I intend to create some future posts about creating spaces in my home from start to finish, something I haven’t had so much experience with before!

I am a new homeowner, and planning to move into said house comes along with a LOT of shopping. It sounds fun, and mostly is, but I have seen some unfortunate e-commerce shopping experiences. One of them is a quick one that I saw recently on AllModern.com.

Look at this beautiful area rug! I am into it, and I just had some hardwood floors refinished so I need to find a beautiful way to protect them a bit. However, then I clicked “select rug size” and saw this menu:

There are no sizes. There are no sizes on the size menu!

This appears to be an issue on the site in general, because this rug’s page also has the same problem.

I can’t imagine I am the first person to run into this issue! I truly love that rug and would like to purchase it, but I do need to know more about the size options. Luckily, it should be a fairly quick fix for AllModern.com to implement.

*UPDATE*

Within one day of sharing this blog post with AllModern.com on Twitter, they have fixed this issue on their website! I love how responsive they were.

Product Review: Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation

It’s been months now since the introduction of the Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation. I saw a number of YouTubers that I watch review the foundation, and it was mostly positive with a few negative comments about how the foundation skewed a bit on the dry side. I ended up with a big sample of it in a Sephora order, and luckily, I managed a color match on the first go! I tried color 150, which is in the image below.

While I ended up with the same conclusion about the foundation’s behavior when interacting with dry skin, I absolutely LOVE it.

The first wear day for the foundation was an odd choice, as I then spent 5 hours cleaning out a storage unit with my husband. A true endurance test! By the end of the day, it looked a bit rough in my t-zone, but my cheeks that don’t have sweat glands looked good.

The next day, I tried again, as it was a normal day of going to the office and enjoying a climate-controlled environment. I noticed almost immediately that some small patches of my skin looked pretty flaky. I do not have dry skin in general, and certainly didn’t notice any of the tiny bits of my skin that were dry until after I put this foundation on. I had used primer, and I’m not sure if I just missed these spots or if they were already experiencing dryness. Either way, I wasn’t happy about this, as I was continuing to enjoy the excellent full coverage and the finish of the product.

The next day, I was very deliberate and thorough in my moisturizing and priming, and it definitely improved my experience. I didn’t notice any standout dry patches on my skin, and the finish continued to be amazing!

The biggest downer about the Fenty foundation is that I am suddenly disappointed with my ride-or-die Covergirl 3-in-1 Foundation. I have been back on my regular foundation in the past few days and it is not holding a candle to the Fenty Pro Filt’r.

I can buy 4 bottles of the Covergirl 3-in-1 for nearly the same price as 1 bottle of the Fenty Pro Filt’r, so I might buy a full-size bottle of the Fenty foundation and use it on days when I want to look extra flawless and amazing.

If you like a full-coverage foundation with a matte finish, I cannot recommend enough that you try the Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation. It is available exclusively at Sephora and on Sephora.com, for $34.
