Sperry x Jaws | Brand Experience Project

Today, an examination of a product that brings me so much joy.

I wish I remembered where I first saw that Sperry was releasing a line of Jaws-themed shoes for the summer. As soon as I did know, I was on the Journeys website, shopping for a pair of slip-ons that fulfilled every need I have as a massive fan of the original Jaws film.

Once I received them, I was even more excited. Lots of photos to come!

The top of the shoe box. Note the TM on the Jaws logo. I noted on a previous Star Wars x Vans post that I found it strange that the Star Wars logo does not feature a trademark.

Blood-soaked tissue paper!

The commitment to excellent packaging here is so wonderful. Custom boxing, custom tissue paper, it’s all there.

A blurryish look at the inside of the shoe shows a continuation of the bloody cloth theme in the shoe liner, and an incredible recreation of the famous “Beach Closed” sign from the film on the inside of the shoe. I cannot say enough about product design of this nature, meant to be a constant delight to the person who is buying something. As such a big fan of the movie, I am so charmed by the attention to detail taking place inside my new shoes. I am excited for the Sperry designers to have gone the distance in creating a pair of shoes that are a true collector’s item.

The inside of the lid of the box also features the “Beach Closed” sign.

Check out my new favorite sneakers. They are truly amazing.

Congratulations to the Sperry team for this amazing collaboration, and incredible commitment to design.

My slip-ons seem to be the most popular option in the Sperry x Jaws collection. They can still be purchased on Journeys.com. Sperry is still offering the other shoes in the collection – see below.

Sunday Link Party

by Jamie Sanford on April 15, 2012

Sunday Link Party! Click on that link to see all of the previous posts.

Photo of the week is a cropped version of one of the photos I took during the Meadowlands brush fire.

I think my hamster was bigger than this chihuahua which might be the world’s smallest dog.

Rose McGowan is one of my favorite actresses, and always looks flawless. This look from last week is no different.

Jaws is coming to Blu-Ray, all restored and amazing. There’s a great video here about the restoration process. I will now need a Blu-Ray player, because Jaws is seriously one of my favorite movies EVER.

Here’s a great gallery of drawings from Draw Something, which you should be playing on your smart phone.

I loved Red Carpet Fashion Awards’ preview of McQ Alexander McQueen. I am obsessed with boots I will never be wearing, but they are gorgeous anyway.

Thanks Buzzfeed for 13 Steps to Get You Through a Rough Day. Amazing.

Have a good week everyone!

Jaws: The Revenge (100 Films in 2011)

by Jamie Sanford on August 23, 2011

54. Jaws: The Revenge (Not available to stream on Netflix, not available digitally through Amazon)

Here is the trailer for Jaws: The Revenge.

[youtube WQDXfB1nBnk]

Jaws: The Revenge is the last film in the Jaws series, and I’m going out on a limb and saying that it is by far the worst.  The story is that of Mrs. Brody, played by Lorraine Gary, and her grown children.  Chief Brody has died, and someone gets killed by a giant great white shark.  Mrs. Brody naturally assumes that the shark has a vendetta and is out to get her family.

Riiiiiiight.

I don’t know why anyone would be worried about this horrible fake shark. It looks worse on screen when it is moving.

The supporting cast includes an obviously desperate for a job Michael Caine, Lance Guest and Mario van Peebles.  The movie delivers in terms of watching people hanging out of the fake shark’s mouth, bleeding profusely, and some ridiculous scenarios, the most ridiculous being that THE SHARK IS OUT TO GET THE BRODY FAMILY.

I saw Jaws: The Revenge when it was on TV and mostly just laughed because it is so ridiculous. The original is one of my favorite movies, so this is just a travesty.  I can’t really recommend watching it unless you are just curious about bad movies, and I would never tell anyone to buy the DVD.

That being said, Jaws: The Revenge is available on DVD from Amazon for $8.49.

Sights & Sounds #27

Sights and Sounds #27

It’s been a while since a Sights & Sounds post, so it will be a long one.

I enjoy these movies with a huge cast and a bunch of little vignettes.  Here is the trailer for New Year’s Eve.

Love this collection of 60 Awesome Portraits of Gay Couples Just Married in New York State on Buzzfeed.

This is Jaws, the Peanuts edition! Shared on TheSIRmon.com last week.

Jennifer Lopez is still hot. Surprise surprise.  Seriously though, I enjoy her a lot. If you haven’t seen her Behind the Music, you should watch it.  She was very honest and frank, and it was great.  Here is more about Jennifer Lopez in Vanity Fair via Idolator.

I also greatly enjoy Anne Hathaway.  There are some great photos of her in Marie Claire, available here.

Gala Darling shared this fabulous video of Johnny and June Cash, and she just got married in what looks to be a gorgeous ceremony on a beautiful day. I can’t wait to see more photos but there are some great ones here.

OK, that closes out Sights & Sounds #27. Have a great day everyone!

100 Films in 2011: Jaws

by Jamie Sanford on March 3, 2011

I wish I remembered when I first saw Jaws all the way through.  I can tell you that I think it wasn’t until sometime in the last 6 years, and it has become one of my favorite movies ever.  Like others on this list, I will almost always watch this movie if I catch it on TV and I have some time to waste.

Here is the Jaws trailer.

15. Jaws! (Available to stream on Netflix Instant Watch!)

I just found out that Jaws was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture!  It lost to One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and won a few technical awards.

Anyway, this is an iconic movie.  I don’t know if anyone on my list or readers hasn’t seen this movie, because it’s so prominent in culture.  There are references to it everywhere, it spawned multiple horrible sequels.  I knew more about Jaws than I probably wanted to because of the references contained within all of the Kevin Smith movies, including the scar-comparison scene in Chasing Amy that so well mimics the one on the Orca.

So if you don’t know, Jaws is the story of a small town, launched into a full on panic attack after a very large and in charge great white shark invades the area during the summer beach season.  The water-fearing police chief, played by Roy Scheider, is charged with dealing with it, and he ends up on the water, shark hunting with the old salt boat captain played by Robert Shaw, and the young shark expert played by Richard Dreyfuss.

Yeah, we’re definitely gonna need a bigger boat.

I don’t think I’ll give away any more about the film, but I definitely will be acquiring the DVD that I’m listing here as it has fantastic special features – from what I know about it, the making of Jaws is almost as interesting as the movie itself.

The 30th Anniversary Special Edition Jaws DVD is available from Amazon for $9.99.
