Las Vegas Travel Essentials | Las Vegas Vow Renewal

by Jamie Sanford on October 24, 2016

It has been almost 5 years since we were in Vegas, renewing our wedding vows on our 5-year anniversary.

We leave in a few weeks to go to Las Vegas to renew our vows again and enjoy time with the 28 people that will be coming along with us! I figured it would be a good time to come up with a post full of essential items and some overall style tips for Las Vegas.

This post contains affiliate links, which means I receive a small commission if you make a purchase using these links.

Instant cameras! This is a bit retro, but they are FUN, and the photos are great souvenirs.

Sunglasses. It is the desert so this is obvious, but this might be a good time to live your sunglasses fantasy. One of my favorite things about Las Vegas is that the decadence of everything makes me want to take things to the next level, when I wouldn’t normally do so in my everyday life. If you need to keep it simple, get some flashy sunglasses.

Sequinned accessories. Shine and sparkle are accepted and encouraged, so why not?

Themes! We are staying at the Flamingo, and I must have it on the brain because I find myself noticing any and all flamingo things that I see.

Non-athletic sneakers. I cringe every time I see someone in a touristy location trying to make their running shoes work as stylish footwear. It does not work. Please go find some cute sneakers that are going to be comfortable as well as better looking than your gym shoes. I am partial to Vans, they are my favorites.

Let me know what your Las Vegas style tips and essentials are on Twitter!

Warby Parker x DonorsChoose.org

by Jamie Sanford on July 25, 2013

I’m very into brands that find a way to give to someone else because of a purchase made. Warby Parker is one of the brands that has discovered that 1, people like not overpaying for glasses and 2, it’s even better when a purchase I would make anyway benefits someone else. In this instance, someone in need gets a pair of glasses too.

DonorsChoose.org Founder Charles Best with DonorsChoose.org Supporter, Actress Mindy Kaling

DonorsChoose.org is a wonderful idea that allows teachers in public schools to submit microfunding requests. They are vetted by the site and then launched. Here are the DC FAQs.

You can see a pair of sunglasses on both Charles and Mindy above, these are the new Gardner sunglasses – and in addition to the pair of glasses that WP would already be donating to a person in need, $30 will go to DonorsChoose.org – and the customer gets to choose which project they want to support. It’s a win-win-win-win situation.

From Warby Parker:

Both Warby Parker and DonorsChoose.org are steeped in the idea of empowering consumers to make smart choices for a larger purpose. With this in mind, we designed one of our most flattering sunglasses yet, the Gardner. The angular shape—detailed with a school bus yellow-inspired line—universally suits teachers’ pets, playground rascals, and even comedy writers, like DonorsChoose.org supporter Mindy Kaling.

Kaling first donated after soliciting charity suggestions on Twitter to celebrate her birthday. DonorsChoose.org caught her eye because, she says, “You’re making an impact directly to a small group of people and really tangibly and quickly changing their lives. You don’t have the feeling like ‘Oh, I want to help, but there’s so much bureaucratic stuff between me and actually helping.’”

This collaboration launches TODAY on WarbyParker.com. If you’re looking for sunglasses, look no further, and check them out here.

2012 Birthday Wishlist

by Jamie Sanford on December 2, 2012

My birthday is coming up soon (December 7th), so here is my fantasy wishlist. My real Amazon wishlist is much more accessible. This one will be about expensive things that I don’t expect anyone to buy me!

I tend to not buy expensive sunglasses, but these are so gorgeous. They are also $290, from Nordstrom.

…except that I just found these for $10.99. Retro City Sunglasses ftw!

Miu Miu Runway Shiny Leather Buckle and Fringe Oxfords – these are on sale for $525 at Saks.

Love the blue and I want to touch the leather. Balenciaga Arena Giant 12 Rose Gold Velo in Bleut, $1,895 at Barney’s.

SO COOL. iPhone speaker doc that uses a vintage gramophone. $422 from ReAcoustic on Etsy.

I have wanted this for years. A pop girl piece by Hulbert Waldroup. A commissioned one would be even better.

Something else I have lusted after for a while. The Lancaster Leather Sofa from Restoration Hardware – the super deep Luxe edition. A mere $4,175.

I love Konstantino jewelry, and definitely would love this London Blue Topaz Crown Ring for $850. Neiman Marcus has a great selection of Konstantino jewelry.

The last item are these Miu Miu jeweled suede platform sandals. Also from Neiman Marcus, for $2100. These are a bit much but they remind me so much of a pair of YSL shoes that I was obsessed with years ago, so I want them.

That’s all – I will be spending a lot less money for my birthday but I intend on having fun which is priceless! Have a good week everyone.

Curious Tuesday 014

by Jamie Sanford on September 9, 2010

I missed this one from Miss Gala!

What’s your favorite outfit?

I don’t really have one. While I love fashion and love to see it on other people, I mostly have standard outfits that I wear in different combinations. Boring, I know.

Jeans, camisole, v-neck sweater. The shoes would change based on activity. We were walking a lot that day, so, Vans. Camera too, not surprising.

I have been trying to get some more variety in my wardrobe, but I am really addicted to wearing black, so that doesn’t change so much. I’ve been a “uniform” person forever – jeans and a black t-shirt, jeans and a black turtleneck, I know.  My major areas of variance are shoes, bags and jewelry. I have a ridiculous collection of scarves and pashminas too.

Oh, and I almost always have my sunglasses on my head.
