Skeletons: They aren’t just for Halloween anymore

Striped and Fabulous.

Kelly Kreth

(Today’s guest post was contributed by Kelly Kreth. I “met” Kelly online around 10 years ago, and since then she’s made me jewelry, she’s been the subject of one of the best photos I’ve ever taken, and thoroughly kicked my ass in Facebook Scrabble.  Check out her new blog which explores optimism and pessimism with great humor and frankness.)

Last year at this time I was entranced by a dress created by Rodarte for Target. After seeing it online and in print, I was dying to buy one. It was a sleeveless black tunic shift, sequined and had a print of a human rib cage on it.

Alas, when I finally got to a Target (this was before the Manhattan Target existed) they were all gone. Many were listed on Ebay but were being auctioned for around triple the actual price. Instead I tried to find a substitute and came up with another rib cage dress posted on Ebay, this one for only $16.99. I chanced it and wore it this summer.

Coincidentally, I later found a whole rack of brand new Rodarte rib cage dresses at the Good Will a few months later and they were only priced at $25.00. Much to my dismay, after trying one on, it felt way too cheap and didn’t fit well so I’m happy I didn’t purchase it from Target or Ebay prior to trying it on.

Which gets me to today’s wish list item:

This Devastee Skeleton print dress is available here and goes for a whopping $317.

About the designers:

Created by young French designers Ophélie Klère and François Alary in 2004, Dévastée is a fashion house that draws inspiration from the dark, the depressive and the macabre. Their lines, entirely black and white, are eloquently understated and feature wearable graphic prints and sleek tailoring.

It is 100% wool and comes in European sizes which is always a plus. Telling someone I am a 38 makes me feel thinner!

Halloween Prep Week! Creepy Lawn Flamingos.

by Jamie Sanford on September 28, 2010

I grew up in Florida, so I cannot resist the creepy lawn flamingos, skeleton-style.

They glow in the dark! If you click through, you can see a small picture of them in the dark – I couldn’t find a bigger version to share here.

Anyway, I’m not sure if these would fly (pun totally intended) anywhere but in the south where tropical birds (and the flamingo lawn phenomenon) are more rampant, but to each his own. Amazon will send you the flamingos no matter where you are.

The set of 2 flamingos is available for $16.33 on Amazon.

Halloween Prep Week! Skeleton Wall Tapestry.

by Jamie Sanford on September 27, 2010

I LOVE Halloween and so I like to start thinking about it early. I had a great idea for a costume in the shower, so now I am really jazzed.

Let’s get started on decor.

This skeleton tapestry from World Market is over 5 feet tall and will definitely make a big statement in your decor. Plus, it comes with the hardware to hang it and would easily roll up after Halloween to pull out again next year.

The tapestry is available from World Market for $149.99. In addition, this item ships for free (ground shipping) if you purchase by October 2nd.
