An image I shot in a bar a few years ago. Mirror balls make their own magic.

Someone planned a road trip around the US to hit major landmarks. This is great.

Foodnited States of America is lovely, and I enjoy it even more since it was a family project.

Vintage photos from Mardi Gras – I was just in New Orleans, so these photos from 1938 are wonderful to see.

Julie Andrews + Christopher Plummer. I am excited for any and all celebration of the 50th anniversary of The Sound of Music.

I would LOVE a 4-day work week, and here are 5 reasons why we need to get on that.

Margie Plus is awesome, but this Bullett Magazine shoot took it to the next level!

Nine Inch Nails mashed up with Taylor Swift is way better than it should be.

Watch the 20 best overtakes from the 2014 Formula One season. 2015 starts this weekend!

Nothing But Trouble (100 Films in 2011)

by Jamie Sanford on October 10, 2011

75. Nothing But Trouble (available for streaming on Netflix and Amazon Instant Video)

Here is the trailer for Nothing But Trouble.

[youtube o0Q1vQkJqC8]

Nothing But Trouble is a movie I had completely forgotten about, but was reminded of by my wonderful friend Tiffany.  I watched this movie on a sketchy VHS a lot of times, because I didn’t remember the beginning so much.  Anyway, the story centers around Chevy Chase, a financial publisher (important distinction) and Demi Moore, a lawyer who has been screwed over by her client/boyfriend.  They intend to crash an event in Atlantic City, end up taking some of Chevy Chase’s Brazilian clients with them on their road trip.

A little detour for a picnic results in a high-speed chase, a pat-down by John Candy, and a trip to a little town called Valkenvania. They have a showdown with a creepy judge played by Dan Akroyd, who is scary and a bit gross in this movie.

They get detained for the night, and the rest of the movie is dealing with a giant crazy mansion, bizarre characters, and an appearance by Digital Underground, which at the time featured a young Tupac Shakur.  This movie nearly defines the word random.

Nothing But Trouble is available on DVD from Amazon for $5.98.

The Yellow Handkerchief (100 Films in 2011)

by Jamie Sanford on September 4, 2011

59. The Yellow Handkerchief (Not available to stream via Netflix or Amazon)

Here is the trailer for The Yellow Handkerchief.

[youtube 3ovc-xjBIt4]

Spoiler alert. Yes, another Kristen Stewart movie. Deal with it. This is the last one for a while.

The Yellow Handkerchief is a road trip movie, where 2 teenagers end up on a road trip with an ex-con just out of prison.  They end up finding out his story and helping him pursue another chance at a lost love.  The movie stars William Hurt, Maria Bello, Eddie Redmayne and the aforementioned Kristen Stewart.

As we move through the initially uncomfortable road trip, we see flashbacks of the relationship between Brett (the ex-con played by Hurt) and May (Bello), who meet and eventually get married.  An unfortunate incident puts Brett in jail, and in an attempt to save her from him, he divorces May from jail.  Early in the road trip, he mails her a postcard letting her know that he is out of jail, and that if she wants to see him, she should put up a yellow sail on her houseboat.

Martine and Gordy (Stewart and Redmayne) are just kids, and they become wrapped up in the story that Brett tells them of May and the love that they shared.  They provide the push that Brett needs to follow through on his attempt to reconnect with May, and naturally, seem to have fallen in love with one another by the end of the movie.

The Yellow Handkerchief is quite a pretty film, it gives you a lovely view at some of the beauty of the small towns in the south, and presents some of the devastation still remaining after Hurricane Katrina.  It is definitely worth a viewing, I really enjoyed the movie.  I never think about William Hurt but the man is SO GOOD in the movie.  Props also to Maria Bello, who makes me sympathize with May and also cringe at her behavior.

The Yellow Handkerchief is available on DVD from Amazon for $10.99.

2010 Recap – Work & Travel

by Jamie Sanford on December 31, 2010

Let’s get into some 2010 recap business!  3 hours left this year!

Quit my previous job after 8 years, found a new job I really enjoy and that actually uses a large majority of my skill set. This made an enormous impact on my life, I am much happier than I was in that job and I had no idea how being unfulfilled by my job was affecting me so much until it wasn’t anymore. I miss the people I used to work with, but I can’t really say I miss the job at all.

  • January – Las Vegas for work.

Brahma Shrine at Caesar's Palace.

  • April – Flew to Florida and then solo road-tripped for 8 days in a hot rented Mustang.  I also met my new nephew, Cooper the Boston Terrier.
Cooper and his towel.

Cooper and his towel - April 2010.

  • May – Weekend trip to Provincetown, MA – stayed in a bed & breakfast and had an amazing whale-watching experience.
Blowhole 3.

Humpback Whale - Provincetown, MA.

Here is a video from that whale-watching trip that my husband took.  You can hear my shutter in the background taking tons of pictures.

  • August – Short trip to Savannah, GA in (super steamy) for my new job.
  • September – Crazy weekend in St. Louis, MO. Saw 2 friends from high school, which was amazing, and made some new friends too.
Mike, Jamie, David in the elevator.

  • September – Less than 2 days after getting back from St. Louis, Will and I were on a plane to FL. Rented another car, this time a brand-new 2011 yellow Camaro. We visited various locations again to see friends, go to Kennedy Space Center, check out The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal, and attend my nephew’s confirmation.

I didn’t travel nearly as much in 2010 as I did in years prior. The new job and related lack of paid vacation days put a damper on the traveling.

To be continued….

Curious Tuesday 016

by Jamie Sanford on September 14, 2010

I think 015 is missing but I’m working from Gala Darling’s numbers on the posts. Let’s just go with it.

If you were an international criminal, what would you do with all the money you’d stolen?

I would pay for the houses of my parents and my husband’s parents. I would save some of it for our family members to have trusts.

Then, this hotness.

Buy something like this…equip with awesome computer situation, wifi, lots of camera gear, then go check this out:

Yes, the whole thing.  It would be the best road trip ever.
