In looking to circumvent the traditional system of content delivery for television shows, etc, Joss Whedon and co. have written and produced a 3-part miniseries that will be available on this coming week. It will be available for free viewing for a few days and then will be pulled, followed up by a DVD release. This was a plan they thought up during/in response to the writer’s strike that ended a few months ago.

Will this be the way that entertainment content is released? We are seeing similar things happening with shows on the premium cable networks such as HBO and Showtime, where non-subscribers are hearing about the shows and either subscribing to the network or stimulating the DVD market by buying or renting.

Of course, it might be a different story for this group of writers/producers/actors than it would be for a group of unknowns.
