Forest Fantasy | Living My Best Life

by Jamie Sanford on December 7, 2017

I have been brewing a blog post about making for some time now. I keep working on new projects that make me have more to say, and so it is very delayed. However, I had to do something about this project.

I have been thinking about making a headpiece for myself featuring large antlers for ages, and I finally managed to do so this past October. My Halloween plans did not work out, so I didn’t have a chance to go out in my costume, which is not so much a costume as me living my forest queen fantasy. I wanted to mark the occasion of this particular project, so I asked William to make some photos of me. Add this to the list of things I have done this year to actively try to live my best life. I know that the phrase is overused to death, but the concept is right. I am over being worried about what other people think about me, and so here I am in the woods.

The overwhelming feeling I had while doing this is that I had no idea what to do with my hands. How do models do this?

Will: “Pose like a statue!” Jamie: *does this*

I wish more of my purple hair was illuminated in this one.

The headpiece on my head is a mixture of faux flowers from Michael’s and 2 different kinds of plastic antlers that I found at Pier 1 Imports and then disassembled from their original locations, and painted to what I wanted them to look like. My dress is from eShakti.

“I’m going to stand behind this plant so my hands don’t look weird.” Look at the antlers though!! This is by far the most complicated thing that I have made, and I am super-proud of the result.

Go forth and live your best life. I know that your version of that probably won’t be wearing a giant headpiece in the woods, but you get the idea.

Even though I came in third (out of 4) in last year’s fantasy Formula One league, I’ve decided to go ahead and try again this year. My dad and my brother have even joined in!

This year, I’m trying out Fantasy Racers Fantasy F1 Competition.

My current driver choices are:

Wish me luck with what looks to be a crazy upcoming season!

The Craft (100 Films in 2011)

by Jamie Sanford on October 18, 2011

76. The Craft (available to stream on Netflix and Amazon)

Here’s the trailer for The Craft.

[youtube HCZ2orfUQkA]

I think everyone in my age group loves this movie.  It is SO 90s, and it’s about witches, and I love some witches/magic/supernatural stuff in my entertainment.  Witches, vampires, etc, I tend to enjoy it all. Spoiler alert starts now!

The Craft is a movie about a group of teenage witches trying to get through high school.  Sarah (Robin Tunney) moves to town, and soon enough becomes the 4th (and most powerful) member of their little coven.  We also have Bonnie (Neve Campbell), Rochelle (Rachel True) and Nancy(Fairuza Balk).

So, everything goes well for a while, they impart some mostly harmless spells, and have fun with glamouring and getting a bit of revenge on Chris (Skeet Ulrich), who wronged Sarah early in the movie.

Naturally, it all goes to hell.  The girls get deep into it one night at the beach, by invoking some big magical spirit.  Nancy gets struck by lightning and goes a bit over the edge.  Sarah starts to see that things are going too far, and after a warning by the magic store owner, she is more nervous than ever about the consequences of the magic.  Nancy ends up killing Chris with her powers, and Sarah tries to bind Nancy’s powers so that she can’t hurt anyone else.

Obviously, Nancy isn’t happy, and recruits the other to gang up on Sarah so that she comes back into the fold.  Big showdown commences, and eventually, Sarah invokes her power and protects herself from Nancy.  Nancy ends up in a mental institution, and the others end up without powers, while Sarah maintains hers.

The Craft is available on DVD from Amazon for $4.49.

The Twilight Saga Films (so far) (100 Films in 2011)

by Jamie Sanford on October 5, 2011

70. Twilight (not available to stream via Netflix or Amazon Instant Video)
71. The Twilight Saga: New Moon (not available to stream via Netflix or Amazon Instant Video)
72. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (not available to stream via Netflix or Amazon Instant Video)

(Spoiler alert!) It doesn’t take long to find out that I’m a Twilight fan.  I wrote the series off as silly kid stuff, and then saw that trailer for Twilight while at the movies, and I thought “ooh that Edward is hot.”

(Also, this scene in the restaurant is my favorite in Twilight.)

I bought a paperback of the first book the next day and got sucked into the vortex, and came out on the other side as a bit of a Twi-hard.  I love it.

So I went to see Twilight and was sort of disappointed.  Everything seemed OK, but the pacing felt really odd.  I saw it again and it felt better, but I knew that my mind was filling things in.  Anyway, the story is this. Bella is a normal human girl, she meets vampire Edward during science class. Her blood is super yummy to him so the fact that they are attracted to each other is very tricky.  They fall in love, drama ensues with some other vampires.

New Moon is my least favorite book in the series, because I am so Team Edward and he is gone a lot.  Bella gets a paper cut at her birthday party and Edward’s brother Jasper tries to kill her.  Edward snaps and decides that Bella will never be safe around him and the others and convinces his family to drop off of the face of the planet, leaving Bella heartbroken.  It is incredibly depressing, and I give Kristen Stewart props, because she plays Bella’s desperation really well.  The movie is about her relationship with her friend Jacob developing, but he’s just creepy and should go away.  Bella eventually goes cliff jumping, which causes some confusion that ends up with Bella and Edward’s sister Alice going to Italy to save Edward from essentially committing suicide.  At the very end of the film, Edward asks Bella to marry him.

Click here to buy New Moon on DVD from Amazon for $14.89.

Eclipse has been the best of the Twilight Saga movies so far.  Finally, Edward and Bella get a bit of a break and get to be cute and in love, while Edward is still trying to get Bella to agree to marriage.  Bella’s Dad is upset that Edward is back because he hurt Bella during the last movie, and Jacob is really upset because his chances with Bella are shot.  In the drama department, a vampire that appeared in the first movie is back and is creating baby vampires to start some shit with the Cullens, specifically in order to get to Bella and kill her.  Vampires and Jacob’s pack of shape-shifting giant wolves unite and fight the baby vampires, and naturally, everything turns out OK.  Bella kisses Jacob at a moment when he’s being a little bitch and threatens to get killed in aforementioned battle with baby vampires, but it doesn’t change anything because Edward is still totally hotter.

Click here to buy Eclipse on DVD from Amazon for $11.55.

So, that’s my snarky recap of The Twilight Saga movies so far. I chose to write about them now, because Breaking Dawn: Part 1 comes out on November 18th, and tickets are on sale now!

Will you be seeing Breaking Dawn: Part 1?

I had sale items last week, so why not go all out on fantasy shopping this week!

Starting out with Christian Louboutin boots.

I love these because they are both fabulous and flat, so I could wear them for hours at a time, and I want to.  Unlikely I’ll be buying them, since the Egoustina boots are available for $1,495 from Neiman Marcus.
