Vegas Wedding Shoes, Part 1.

by Jamie Sanford on June 10, 2011

This is another post in my “planning for Vegas vow renewal” series. I won a gift card to Neiman Marcus a few months ago from on Twitter, and have been thinking I would use it to buy something fabulous for our trip to Las Vegas.  What other than fun and fabulous shoes would I go to first?

Miu Miu Peep-Toe Suede Bow Pump, $570. These are the most practical of the bunch, I think. I could probably walk around in these for a few hours before switching to flats.

Christian Louboutin Ambertina Bejeweled Sandal, $2395. I think I’ve shown these on the site before, and I think they would look really good in photos.  I cannot imagine I would be traveling anywhere whilst wearing these shoes.  These are shoes that get put on for photos and then removed – they would end up as art on a shelf in my house.

YSL Iconic Platform Sandal, $760. If you subtract the platform height, the heel is only 3 inches, which is totally doable.  These shoes are fabulous but feel like they aren’t quite “Vegas” enough for this situation.

Tabitha Simmons Cutout Lizard Ankle-Wrap Sandal, $1795. These are not friendly to those who don’t eat animal products because these are fully lizard shoes.  The heel is almost 5 inches but is more substantial, which probably means I’d be able to walk in them for a while.  The only thing though is that in comparison to the other shoes, they aren’t nearly as bright.  These strike me more as shoes to wear in New York in the fall with some fabulous tights.  It’s a specific feeling for me.

More potential Vegas wedding shoes coming soon!

Jewelry with Personality from Rachel Pfeffer Designs

by Jamie Sanford on April 7, 2011

I really like my jewelry pieces to be interesting and sometimes quirky.  I get comments on my engagement and wedding rings quite often, because they both are not plain and my wedding ring is pretty big.  Anyway, I was excited to find Rachel Pfeffer Designs on Etsy because the jewelry in her shop totally fits my personality.

Mini camera necklace! I love to take pictures and I’ve posted camera jewelry before, so I can’t resist.

Product description:

Now you can wear a tiny Holga around your neck! This little pendant is hand formed from sterling silver wire by yours truly. The flash is a small moonstone cabochon. It is on a short 16 inch sterling silver chain but can be put on an 18 inch one. It is handmade so no two will be exactly alike!

Rachel Pfeffer’s Mini Camera Necklace is available on Etsy for $84.

Another dachshund! I’m going to end up getting one myself at some point (the dog, not the necklace – although if I have the dog, I might want the necklace even more).  Anyway.

Product description:

A cute, texty twist on the classic sterling silver hot dog pendant! He’s cast from an original hotdog that I hand pierced with a jewelers saw and then soldered three little rings to the back. I hammered HOT on the front, darkened the letters, and gave it a bright, brushed finish! He hangs on an 18 inch sterling silver chain.

The puppy is solid sterling silver, and no two look exactly the same! Lettering can be customized, just give me a message.

The Hot Dachshund necklace is available from Etsy Seller Rachel Pfeffer Designs for $72.

This ring doubles as an awesome weapon.  Be bold, indeed.  Seriously though, I love amethyst and this is a mighty big chunk to put on your hand.

You’ll be infused with boldness when you wear this ring! And how could you not? It commands you to be right there on the side.

I set a beautiful and very lightweight lavender amethyst geode set in handmade sterling silver bezel. The stone itself is amazingly flat, and the ring is incredibly comfortable. It has a double band and the stone sits flatly on your finger, overlapping the surrounding ones! (most comfortable when worn on middle finger.)

I stamped little hearts all the way around the bezel, and the words “be bold” decorate one of the sides. The bottom of the bezel was cut out of an engraved vintage sterling silver award plate, and the word “wishes” is legible on the bottom, adding a secret bit of whimsy.

The ring is currently a size 6.5, but fits more like a 7 because of the broad, flat top.

This ring is completely handmade and one of a kind, so get it before it’s gone!

This kickass “Be Bold” Amethyst Ring from Etsy Seller Rachel Pfeffer Designs is available for $124.

Best in Show (100 Films in 2011)

by Jamie Sanford on March 14, 2011

19. Best in Show (Available to stream on Netflix Instant Watch)

Here’s the Best in Show trailer.

[youtube yeifMjqpsg0]

I don’t remember which of the Christopher Guest mockumentaries was the first one I saw, but I think that Best in Show is my favorite.  I really liked dog shows, but this movie, focusing on 5 dogs and their owners and handlers made me enjoy them a lot more.  The whole thing seems much more humorous now that I can imagine what kind of neuroses are happening behind the scenes.

Your cast of characters include:

Buck and Trevor, your dog show commentators.  Trevor knows quite a bit about dogs, Buck does not.

Christy and Sherri Ann.  That’s their show dog Butch – show name Rhapsody in White.

Gerry and Cookie Fleck, with their Norwich terrier, Winky.

Hamilton and Meg Swan, with their tortured Weimaraner, Bea.

Harlan Pepper and his bloodhound, Hubert.

Stefan Vanderhoof and Scott Donlan, and their shih tzus, Agnes on the right competes in the Mayflower Kennel Club dog show that is the titular show.

This movie is in the classic Guest style, we’re introduced to all of our characters and then see them as they prepare for and travel to the Mayflower Kennel Club dog show in Philadelphia.  They begin to cross over and interact with each other at events surrounding the dog show. They then all compete and one of them (I won’t give it away) wins the whole show.

It’s a great movie if you love dogs, I’ve seen this movie at least 10 times – another on the ever-growing list of “movies I will watch if I find it on TV and am not doing anything just then.”  I would definitely recommend buying this movie.

Best in Show is available on DVD from Amazon for $5.98!

Christian Louboutin Shoes for the Ages

by Jamie Sanford on February 11, 2011

Christian Louboutin shoes are really expensive. I am not rich. Therefore, it is unlikely that I will own many/any Christian Louboutin shoes.

But they’re so fabulous!

I nearly bought Christian Louboutin kitten heels for my wedding.  I couldn’t wear big heels because I didn’t want to tower over my husband who is only slightly taller than me, and they were black so I knew I’d wear them again.  I ended up not getting them because spending another $700 on something whilst in the crazy spending that comes with a wedding was not a good idea.

However, I’ve always thought that if I was going to spend this much money on shoes that I should pick something that I know I could use a lot, that would be fabulous but also would work in multiple areas of my life.  Work, play, etc.

So these are my new obsession.  These are the Christian Louboutin Metallic Watersnake Pumps.  The shape of the shoe is very classic, but the snakeskin texture makes it interesting.  The heel is only 3.25 inches, which is high enough to give you the benefits of the heel without being a 5-inch heel that will likely cause my death.

Unfortunately they are also $995.

I could buy the similar shoe in black, available for $595, and I know that these shoes are crafted not just made, so they aren’t just black pumps, but I’m not here for that. I want special shoes.

Can you even imagine this movie without those shoes?  Dorothy had special shoes and I want some too.

100 Films in 2011: But I’m A Cheerleader

by Jamie Sanford on February 10, 2011

Hello again everyone – my clear obsession with RuPaul is unrelated to the fact that I like this movie.

Well, don’t get me wrong, I’m excited that Ru is in the movie (as an ex-gay), but I didn’t see this movie because of RuPaul.  That was just a bonus.

9. But I’m A Cheerleader (Not available to stream on Netflix Instant Watch)

Let’s start with the trailer, which is rated R.

[youtube X_yjuTaRGx4]

But I’m A Cheerleader centers around Megan, played by Natasha Lyonne, a cheerleader that we find out doesn’t realize that she’s a lesbian.  Her friends and family bring in RuPaul for an intervention, and she’s off to True Directions, a camp to turn people straight.  We meet the other kids at the camp, but are intrigued by Graham, played by Clea Duvall.  The kids start going through their steps to heterosexuality and hilarity ensues – I won’t give it away because it’s funny and I’m not giving anything away beyond what’s in the trailer.

I will give away that Megan and Graham fall for each other, so it gets to be a sweet love story in addition to a comedy.

I can recommend But I’m A Cheerleader to anyone who likes romantic comedies – and this one has a great message stuck in there too, about being yourself even if it isn’t the most comfortable choice.

But I’m A Cheerleader is available on DVD from Amazon for $11.99.
